My Story
Hello! I’m Ciel Yogis, a passionate Doctor of Physical Therapy dedicated to unlocking the transformative power of pelvic floor rehabilitation. My journey began back in 2002 as a Pilates trainer, where I discovered the incredible importance of a well-trained core for achieving postural stability and managing pain.
As I delved deeper into the world of movement, I began to recognize a crucial player in this arena: the pelvic floor. Upon earning my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and immersing myself in pelvic floor rehabilitation, I had an enlightening revelation—the strength and healthy mobility of these muscles are pivotal not only for core function but also for the intimate well-being of both men and women.
Over the next decade, I delved into the intricacies of anatomy, becoming a specialist in treating fascia. This deep dive and continual learning has allowed me a unique vantage point of understanding how the pelvic floor is integral to body function—it influences the way we breathe, our balance, as well as our basic continence. Beyond that, it plays a vital role in our systemic fascial health, connecting various systems to create a harmonious flow throughout the body. This new found understanding ignited a passion within me to explore, educate, and empower individuals to embrace their pelvic health.
The ChallengeÂ
As I embarked on my journey in the clinic and later transitioned to a hospital setting, I encountered a significant challenge. I began to notice how systemic dysfunctions—whether in urinary, gastrointestinal, neurological, respiratory, or mental health—often stemmed from pelvic floor dysfunction and debilitating pain in the pelvic muscles.
It became increasingly evident that these interconnected disorders were typically treated in isolation, with each department focusing solely on its area of expertise, often neglecting the holistic perspective. The unique function of the pelvic floor lies in its role as the final link in the nervous system chain, influencing an array of complex bodily functions. This interplay creates neuromuscular syndromes that can significantly impact bladder, bowel function and sexual health.
Recognizing this gap fueled my determination to promote a more integrative approach to pelvic health, one that considers the whole person rather than just individual systems. Through education and advocacy, I aim to reshape how we perceive and treat pelvic health, ensuring that it is viewed as a vital component of overall wellness.
My ApproachÂ
I’ve managed to navigate the challenges of a demanding healthcare landscape, driven by the increasing need for comprehensive pelvic health services. With over a decade of experience, I've successfully helped countless individuals overcome bladder, bowel, and sexual dysfunction following surgery, injury, or illness. My approach seamlessly blends personalized care with over 20 years of teaching, guiding patients and community members toward improved pelvic health and overall wellness.
I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree through a collaborative program at San Francisco State University and the University of California, San Francisco, where I continue to provide clinical care and stay updated on cutting-edge research. Beyond the clinic walls, I am passionate about expanding healthcare access and sharing my expertise with a broader audience.
My treatment philosophy involves thorough evaluation, education, behavioral modifications, and core training, all framed within a holistic approach to sexual wellness. I have developed a specialized blueprint for overcoming post-prostate surgery incontinence, focusing on enhancing pelvic floor strength and function alongside core training.
As a clinician, learning to pivot during the pandemic toward serving patients in a virtual setting helped me to see how easily we can all connect much more quickly and efficiently; patients benefit significantly from the online model of learning for faster healing!Â
